WE’RE HIRING

Evening Chef / Line Cook + Prep — Clinton Hill (Monday & Tues/Wed)

Maya — A House of Rice is looking for a thoughtful, capable cook to join our small kitchen team in Clinton Hill.

This is a hybrid role (includes opportunities to fill other shifts):
Monday evenings: line cook
Tuesday or Wednesday: prep

Our food is rooted in Asian traditions, with congee at the center. We care deeply about the relationship between ingredients, time, temperature, and texture and about making food that feels generous and deeply cared for.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has professional kitchen experience
  • Is comfortable working a small line independently
  • Can move with focus and calm during service
  • Takes recipes and consistency seriously
  • Understands that prep is part of cooking, not separate from it
  • Keeps a clean, organized station
  • Is curious about food and enjoys learning
  • Takes pride in feeding people well

This is a part-time position that could be a great fit for a chef/cook who has another job during the weekend and wants extra hours working in a smaller kitchen where you can actually see the whole picture – from prep to the plate.

Location: Fulton St, Clinton Hill
Schedule: Monday evening + Tuesday or Wednesday prep
Part-time

If this sounds like the kind of kitchen you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send your name, a little about yourself, your kitchen experience, and your availability to mayacongeecafe@gmail.com

Evening Host — Bed-Stuy (Sundays to Wednesdays)

Have a day job but miss working with people?
Want to spend a few evenings a week somewhere warm, lively, and hands-on?

Maya Congee Cafe in Bed-Stuy is looking for an evening host to join us Sunday–Wednesday evenings.

This is a part-time position that could be a great fit for someone who has another job during the day and wants a little more connection, movement, and community in their week.

As an evening host at Maya, you’ll welcome and help guests settle in, guide them through our set menu, assemble the food orders and serve it to each table, all while keeping an eye on the room, and help create the feeling of hospitality that matters so much to us.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Able to work solo shifts
  • Genuinely enjoys people and is naturally helpful
  • Has good instincts, able to offer accommodations to make people feel welcome
  • Can stay calm when things get busy
  • Is reliable and takes commitments seriously
  • Communicates clearly with guests and the team
  • Able to assemble and plate food beautifully (we can guide you)
  • Doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty – hospitality is hands-on work

You don’t need to be available every night forever. We’re looking for someone who can commit to at least one day a week from Sunday–Wednesday evenings, with the possibility of working as little as one evening a week after training.

Maya is a small neighborhood restaurant built around food, tea, congee, conversation, and care.

If that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to meet you.

Location: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
Evenings: Sunday–Wednesday
Part-time

Please send your name, a little about yourself, your availability, and why this sounds interesting to you to mayacongeecafe@gmail.com.
